What is Counselling?

(Information from  Accredited Counsellor/ Psychotherapist (MBACP - Accred.)  based in Chester, easily accessible from North Wales, Wirral, Merseyside and Cheshire.)

  • Counselling (psychotherapy) can help you get more out of life and maximise your potential.

  • Counselling (psychotherapy) is a way of helping people to manage during times of difficulty, crisis or change.

  • Based on a confidential and respectful relationship between the counsellor and the client, counselling involves working to get in touch with feelings and thoughts, which may be related to something specific happening in your life at the time or may concern issues in the past which still trouble you today.

  •  Counselling is an active process; it is different from being advised or guidance, in that you will not be told what to do or given solutions to your problems.

  • Your counsellor will work with you on identifying your goals and in helping you to reach them. These may include getting to know yourself better, looking at how you relate to others and how you do things, identifying ingrained patterns of behaviour and developing new strategies for coping.
